Helen "Tot" Rutherford passed away June 19, 2017 at her local residence.
Helen was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. She was a woman that wore several hats. She attended McNeese Junior College, was a Secretary for a local lumber yard, District Manager of Luzier cosmetics, owner of a beauty shop, sold real estate for Century 21 and operated the first dating service (Helen's dating service) in the local area. She was a faithful member of St. Margarets Catholic Church and enjoyed receiving weekly communion with Ann Simpson. She also enjoyed having get togethers...

Helen was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. She was a woman that wore several hats. She attended McNeese Junior College, was a Secretary for a local lumber yard, District Manager of Luzier cosmetics, owner of a beauty shop, sold real estate for Century 21 and operated the first dating service (Helen's dating service) in the local area. She was a faithful member of St. Margarets Catholic Church and enjoyed receiving weekly communion with Ann Simpson. She also enjoyed having get togethers with her lady friends (Steele Magnolias) for "Happy Hour". Tot was known for her sharp sense of humor and quick wit.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Isaac Nelson Abshire Sr. and Adele; sons, Rodney and Briant Nelson Rutherford Sr.; step-daughter Barbara Cureton; brother Isaac Nelson Abshire Jr.
Helen is survived by her children, Pamela Gammage Veron (George), Deborah Lyons Broussard (Jim) and Randy Rutherford all of Lake Charles LA; step-children Walter, Allen, Robert Rutherford and Billie Farr (Doug); grandchildren, Darryl Veron (Paige), Vivian Newmann, Ryan Landry (Tonya), Robin LaCombe (Paul) ,Kristin LeBouef (Clint), Kaytlin Wiley, Teresa Rutherford, and several great- grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful care that was provided by Tim Gary, Janice Thomas, Jacqueline Vital and Vanessa Batiste and a special thanks to Amedysis and Heart of Hospice.
Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 10am until 4pm and a rosary will be prayed at 2pm. Funeral services will be held on the same day at 4pm with Monsignor Dubois officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
