Westlake- Thomas Daniel (Dan) Blalock, 70, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 in a local hospital surrounded by his loving wife, children and friends.
Dan was born in Baskerville, VA on his family's tobacco and dairy farm and had lived in the Lake Charles area since 1969. He was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and received a degree in business/finance. Westlake- Thomas Daniel (Dan) Blalock, 70, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 in a local hospital surrounded by his loving wife, children and friends.
Dan was born in Baskerville, VA on his family's tobacco and dairy farm and had lived in the Lake Charles area since 1969. He was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and received a degree in business/finance. He was a U.S. Army veteran, past president of the Young Men's Business Club, past member of the Krewe of Contraband and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing at his ranch in Texas and quail hunting with his English Setters. He was an independent insurance agent with Midsouth Insurance Agency, Northwestern Mutual and First Federal Bank. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Baskerville, VA.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Pepper Blalock; two sons, Thomas D. Blalock Jr. of Brenham, TX and Marcus E. Blalock of Columbia, SC; two brothers, Horace G. Blalock of Evans, GA and William E. Blalock of Baskerville, VA; two sisters, Jane B. Drumwright of Hopewell, VA and Martha B. Michael of Midlothian, VA; five grandchildren, Whitney, Peyton, Lillian, Elam and Malarie.
He is preceded in death by his parents Horace Guy and Janie Elam Blalock and by Gail Pierson Blalock, his first wife and mother of his children.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Monday, September 2 at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA. Graveside service and burial will be at 11am Friday, September 6 in Bethany Baptist Cemetery in Baskerville, VA. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers the family requested memorials to be made to the American Cancer Society and the PKD Foundation in his memory.
